HISTORY
8-12-92: Initial release
====================================================================
TOPDOWN1 is a Wildcat 3.0x+ utility which makes an ascii list of the
top 'x' most downloaded files from a Wildcat system.
This list is suitable for a bulletin, hello file, etc.
It is a major rewrite of my previous TOPDOWN program which is limited
to around 5000 or so files, depending on your hardware. TOPDOWN1
should handle Wildcat File Databases with over 25,000 files.
Example of usage: TOPDOWN1 15
Lists the 15 most downloaded files in the output file TOPDOWN.LST
Any number up to 32767 is accepted. If this number EXCEEDS or EQUALS
the ACTUAL NUMBER of files in your database, TOPDOWN1 will print a
note on your screen saying,
"You have specified more files than you have; processing ALL files"
and will give you a list of ALL your files, sorted by Number of
Downloads in descending order. This can be useful for file maint-
enance.
TOPDOWN1.EXE can live anywhere in your PATH...but it must be EXECUTED from
your Wildcat Home Directory. File sharing is supported and nodes
do not need to be down.
No configuration file is used - the output format is fixed and shows
the filename, size, # of downloads and the description.
Please consider registering this program if you find it useful, with
a nominal contribution. A lot of time and effort has gone into creating
the WILDCAT utilities I've written. I find them useful, and hope you
do too!
A registration contribution of $40 or more will cover registration
for ALL my Wildcat 3.x+ utilities. See the list in this archive
for information.
Thanks!
